I was thinking of my journey as a new wife and all that I have learned in such a short time of being married. I feel that once you become a wife you enter a newseason of your life when you become this blooming homemaker and you just want to make your home a welcoming space.
I remember being terrified of being in charged of cooking a whole meal. I know I loved cooking but I was always worried if my food would not taste good and we would have to end up ordering a pizza.
There is no doubt that the heart of any home is the kitchen and I am sharing with you today my must-haves when in the kitchen. I feel that any new wife or honestly anyone who loves to cook needs to always have these goodies stocked up in their kitchen.
Life is busy and hectic and sometimes we need to whip something up quickly for our husband’s, children or the entire family.
1. First up would be Coconut Aminos Sauce ( the healthy version of soy sauce and it’s gluten free). I love using Coconut Aminos sauce in dishes so much. It’s the perfect sauce to marinate your protein whether it be steak, chicken or tofu! It is also perfect when marking stir fry’s that will take only minutes for you to cook up and will definitely make the family enjoy meal time
2. Potatoes, Potatoes and more potatoes. Which ever you prefer it does not matter, give me all the red potatoes, sweet potatoes, and all sorts of sizes of potatoes. As a new wife I had to find easy meals to start off my recipes, and potatoes helped me so much when thinking of new meals to bring to the table. You can fry them, bake them and whip them up and they are the perfect side dish for you dinner meal. I always say this when in doubtchoose a protein, a vegetable and roasted potatoes on the side to call it a meal!
3. Seasoning can be challenging as a new cook. So as a new cook a must have in your kitchen is garlic salt. Garlic salt will save you from having untasteful cooking and as you get more experience I promise you will get more comfortable experimenting with seasonings. We all have to start somewhere and let’s face it garlic salt is probably the way to go.
4. Fresh Herbs! Using fresh herbs when cooking will definitely up your game in your food tastes. I always like to keep some fresh herbs when possible so that I can use for my meals to make them more favorable.
5. A Cast Iron! This is my go to when cooking almost anything. You all need one of these in your kitchen because it just really makes a difference when cooking your meals on it. My tip is to always use butter when cooking on the cast iron to prevent your food from sticking to the pan. Perhaps I could share more tips on this on a later blog?
While there are so many must haves I could share with you I feel these have been the highlight of my journey as a new wife and have helped my love for cooking to grow.
What are your kitchen must haves?
With Love,
Jazmin
